Welcome to Shanan (pronounced “shaw-nan'”). My name is Charlie Wallace and I am the children’s pastor at The First Baptist Church of Columbia, SC. The purpose of this blog is to inform, inspire, and educate. Your comments are welcome and discussion is encouraged!

The name of this blog is the Hebrew word that means, “to teach dilligently.” It is found in the following passage of Scripture:

“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently (shanan) to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” (Deuteronomy 6:5-7 ESV).

As believers we are instructed to love God with our entire being – wholeheartedly. Upon doing this we are then, out of the love of God that flows from our heart, to likewise diligently instruct our children, and others, God’s Word. We do this in every facet of our lives – when we talk, when we rest at home, when we travel, when we take them to sporting events, when we go to the supermarket. What a huge responsibility!

I hope that you will interact with this blog by offering your comments.
