God Protects (June 15)

June 10, 2008

This week first-fourth graders will be learning that they can trust God to protect them. Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble.” Children will learn the biblical truth that God protects as they learn the story of Elijah, Jezebel, and God’s provision of him when he fled in fear (1 Kings 19:1-18).

Every person and child has something that they would like God to protect them from. Ask your children what that one thing is. Then assure them that God will protect and provide for them in those tough times. It is true that bad things do happen to people and sometimes these bad things can include disease and death. However, let your children know that even in these times their God has never forsaken them, He still loves them and that ultimately their suffering is part of God’s ultimate plan for the world. And ultimately, all suffering and bad things were put to an end through Jesus’ death on the cross.
