The Spirit was Promised (June 8)

June 5, 2008

Fifth graders are spending the month of June learning about the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. Last week they learned of the nature of Holy Spirit. This week they will learn about how the arrival of the Holy Spirit was promised (and subsequently fulfilled).

Jesus told his disciples, “the Counselor, the Holy Spirit – the Father will send Him in My name – will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.”(John 14:26)

It is comforting to know that the Holy Spirit was sent for the express purpose of teaching us and reminding us of things that we have learned from God’s Word. Impress on your children this week the majesty, grace, and love of God that he so freely gives us in the gift of the Holy Spirit. God has not just left his people out of the loop – instead he has given us the most perfect gift of all, His indwelling Spirit.
